We are committed to responsible innovation, and this includes our commitment to ensure that all users maintain control of their data and how it is used by the platform. Specifically, we want to ensure that data is only used in ways that you are comfortable with and aware of. In this statement we will describe the personal data we collect, how it’s used and shared, and your choices regarding this data. Spotlight is a platform designed to help you get involved and take action with causes that you care about. Your trust is important to us, and we want to earn that trust. The platform is designed to help you discover social enterprises and other educational and social impact-driven organizations (“orgs”) that are making positive impacts regarding causes that you care about. We want to connect you with them, but we will only use data that you intentionally share with us in order to make suggestions and recommendations about what organizations to follow and support.
Regarding your data, our motto is “You’re in control of you.”
If you have clicked “join now,” “sign up,” “login” or any similar wording to enter Spotlight, or are just visiting our public landing pages on our website, this policy applies to you. By using or accessing our Services in any manner, you acknowledge that you accept the practices and policies outlined below, and you hereby consent that we will collect, use, and share your personal information as described in this Privacy Policy. We act as the ‘data controller’ of personal and organizational data. This means we determine how and why your data are processed.
Remember that your use of Spotlight’s Services is at all times subject to our Terms of Use which incorporates this Privacy Policy. We provide a glossary of terms in our Terms of Use to make sure keywords are clearly defined.

The data you generate as you engage with various orgs on the platform can be shared in order to help Spotlighters and Spotlight provide information that is useful to you. We consider humane technology recommendations on every level on the platform.
Click Behavior
We will not draw inferences about you or your data interests based on your views or click behaviors on the platform.
For instance, while we may suggest certain Spots to you based on your stated interests and the channels you follow, we will not use information such as page views, time on page, or other behavioral data to suggest new content to you.
Attributes
We will not draw inferences about your needs and interests based on any data other than what you have intentionally shared with us to help you connect with the right orgs, published content, suggested actions, and products.
We will not use behavioral or other psychological models to try to retain your attention for longer than is healthy. We do offer MBTI testing for entertainment purposes and we do use these attributes along with your other profile attributes that you intentionally share with us (ie. location, age, values, interests, skills, channels, and bullhorns).
In an approach similar to entertainment content platforms like Spotify or Netflix, we want to be able to provide content to you that matches those attributes. We may use machine learning to better understand your attributes. We will only use information you have expressly provided to the platform through your attributes, by sharing it in your user profile, or following specific organizations, channels or Spots.
Selling Data and Ads
We will not sell your data to 3rd parties.
We do allow our partner organizations and Spotlight Collective members to target advertising to you based on your behavior on the platform.
We do not offer electoral political ads and will not target you with these types of ads.
We do make inferences nor sell/provide any electoral predictions from donations, social actions, volunteering, reading or any other behaviors that might indicate a political preference.
We ask that you consider a few things to make sure we are in agreement with how to use our Services and be an upstanding member of the Spotlight community.
Here are the reasons for which we process your data:
Spotlight is public and currently all profiles are viewable and searchable by anyone participating in the Alpha/Beta testing phase. You may not use Spotlight under a pseudonym. We require both users and orgs (“Spotlighters”) to use a real name or registered name. We use your contact information, such as your email address or phone number, to authenticate your account and keep it - and our services - safe. This helps us to prevent spam, fraud, and abuse. We also use contact information to enable certain account features.
Be Mindful in Public
Most activity on Spotlight is public, including your profile information. Other Spotlighters might thereby learn information about you associated with the content with which you engaged or created. This engagement may lead to a Spotlighter to draw characteristics of an audience based on the information you share.
We ask that all Spotlighters think carefully about what information they make public. When you share information, you are directing us to disclose that information to partner organizations through our APIs and future integrations, and directing those accessing the information through our APIs to do the same.
We
Spotlight collects data provided by Spotlighters, such as during account creation to learn about your most important commitments and causes.
We believe you should always know what data we collect from you and how we use it, and that you should have meaningful control over both. We want to empower you to make the best decisions about the information you share with us.
The chart below explains how and when we collect data. We reserve the right to collect data at a different moment or many moments than specified in the When column.

From the first moment you interact with Spotlight, we are collecting data. Sometimes you provide us with data, sometimes data about you is collected automatically.

We do our best to safeguard your data. Unfortunately, no data transmission is guaranteed to be 100% secure. You are responsible for your username and password: keep them secret and safe! If you believe your privacy has been breached, please contact us immediately on people@spotlight.xyz.
We will archive and stop actively using any personal identifiable information about you within 6 months from the last time you used Spotlight. We will delete your personal data from our archives no later than 6 years from the last time you used Spotlight or as agreed with you in a separate contract.
In addition to deciding what data you choose to share with Spotlight about your interests and the causes that are meaningful to you, you can also choose to share or not share your demographic and other personal information on your profile with other users in the Spotlight community.
Optional Attributes and Connection
You can choose to share your personal information with organizations that you follow and support. You can choose to make this information public on the platform, private to only your friends (or contacts) etc.
You can block cookies by activating a setting on your browser allowing you to refuse cookies. You can also delete cookies through your browser settings. If you turn off cookies, you can continue to use the website and browse its pages, but Juro and certain services (like Intercom) will not work effectively.
Opt-Out to Marketing
We will inform you (before collecting your data) if we intend to use your data for marketing and if third parties are involved. You can opt out from marketing by emailing us at people@spotlight.xyz.
Data Correction
You have the right to make us correct any inaccurate personal data about you
Forget and Erase
You have the right to be ‘forgotten’ by us. You can do this by asking us to erase any personal data we hold about you, if it is no longer necessary for us to hold the data for purposes of your use of Juro.
Let Us Correct Problems
You have the right to lodge a complaint regarding our use of your data. Please tell us first, so we have a chance to address your concerns.
Cookies
We use cookies. Unless you adjust your browser settings to refuse cookies, we (and these third parties) will issue cookies when you interact with Spotlight. These may be ‘session’ cookies, meaning they delete themselves when you leave Spotlight, or ‘persistent’ cookies which do not delete themselves and help us recognise you when you return so we can provide a tailored service.
